480V Load Centers

Challenge:

A power plant had numerous 480V load centers (LCs) that had reached their end of life and most had no spare capacity. It was clear to the client that this was an undertaking that would require many years of dedicated work to evaluate the LCs and develop a plan for their replacement.

Solution:

Valdes was dedicated to this project for about five years and evaluated all 19 480V LCs including 66 existing motor centers (MCCs). Valdes was responsible for first modelling the system and identifying the key load centers slated for replacement delivering an engineering study report with total installed costs (TIC) and project schedule to obtain funding. Later detailed design work and construction management was provided to see this project through the installation of new LCs.

Impact:

Electricians and engineers at the power plant were very satisfied with the installation of the new LCs and Valdes has continued to be invited back to execute work at this power plant as well as many more of its sister plants throughout the utility's territory.
