Public Works Facility Optimization

Challenge

Village of Orland Park

A municipal client had an existing public works facility in great need of updates and reorganization. After experiencing 35+ years of various additions and renovations, they needed a comprehensive plan to accommodate for growth over the next 30 years, better utilize their existing facilities, update physical spaces to accommodate current practices, and incorporate additional acquired land.

Solution

Valdes conducted programming verification sessions with the municipal client, meeting with each department in the village that will have space in the optimized public works facility to walk through their program. The programming and planning team at Valdes will produce a final, updated program which will serve as the road map to laying out the re-organized facility. Valdes will generate a schematic floor plan to accommodate programmatic needs which will help the village to visualize how the new facility can function. After finalization of the schematic design phase, Valdes will generate construction documents and assist the Village through permitting, bidding and construction phases to project closeout.

Impact

IMPACT: The municipal client had a public works facility that was the product of years of additions and renovations. Over the years, this produced inefficiencies in department practices and limited the departments in their ability to serve the public. Valdes is providing the village with a plan that takes into consideration all departments and village services in the public works facility and optimizes their resources to better serve their residents for many years to come.
