Pipe Bridge Project

Challenge

127th bridge project

A refinery client needed design support to reroute eighteen (18) pipe runs that were laid underneath 127th Street. They needed to find a solution that would permit them to maintain and inspect the piping in accordance with API 570.

Solution

After considering various options with the client, Valdes prepared preliminary engineering to develop a Class II total installed costs (TIC) estimate, followed by detail engineering to support fabrication and installation of a bridge to run the piping over the street. Valdes performed 3D modeling to generate a piping layout and routing, along with associated structural components (foundations, structural, and supports) while coordinating with client construction and operations representatives throughout the design process.

Impact

Valdes ultimately provided deliverables to have the system fabricated and built. They included the electrical, instrumentation and controls construction scope of work and material takeoff; various packages, including one for structural modular construction, field steel construction, turnaround piping construction and turnaround piping tie-ins; plans for foundation location, composite cable and conduit, and revised grounding; and drawings for revised conduit details, existing lighting and revised existing lighting panel. The final product provided the client a solution to perform API 570 piping inspections.
