Challenge

A Fortune 100 pharmaceutical client required a detailed topographic and utility survey for master planning of site utilities.

Solution

Valdes survey staff completed the topographic survey of approximately 15 acres. Additionally, a private utility locator was utilized to get the best representation of buried utility line locations and depths. 3D scans were then recorded at valve pit locations and building basements (utility entry points). Following the fieldwork, the scanning data was processed and registered to match the positioning of survey control, creating a combined data set relative location to one another. The client was provided with a three-dimensional survey deliverable that allowed 3D modeling of underground routes for proper plan/profile engineering design of new utility lines.

Impact

The Valdes survey team was able to schedule and complete fieldwork at an agreed-upon time that minimally impacted site operations. The 3D scan data was also used to design pipe tie-in locations within valve pits and buildings. Site control and benchmarks set during the project will complement future construction and verification. Finally, as-built utility information gathered from the survey was inserted into the client’s records for future use and design projects.
