Natural Gas Storage Facility Compressor Replacement



A major supplier of natural gas needed to install a 5,000HP natural gas compressor and required assistance in the design, layout and implementation of the project. To our client, it was very important that they were closely consulted and that they worked alongside our design team in the development of design and bid packages.


Valdes worked closely with our client to develop design and bid packages for the installation of a supplied skid-mounted compressor unit. The detail engineering for the project included the development of a complete set of detailed piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). A material list was prepared for each P&ID covering the complete compressor installation as well as the general arrangements detailing the layout and orientation of all equipment, including the metering building and compressor building. The assignment entailed detail drawings conveying the connection details reflecting the various vendor skid systems (e.g. Lube Oil, Jacket Cooling Water/Glycol and Auxiliary Systems, Fuel Gas System, Filter Separator, Engine Air Intake and Exhaust System).


The effort entailed multi-disciplinary resources, including mechanical, piping, civil/structural and electrical disciplines, and clear communication among these teams and with the client to exceed the client’s expectations. Valdes’ mechanical effort included close coordination with the vendor of the supplied skid mounted compressor unit to ensure the timely delivery of a high-quality piece of equipment meeting the client’s extensive design philosophies.
