Maintenance Facilities and Site Improvements

Challenge

The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) required improvements be made to certain maintenance facilities and other important infrastructure on site at two locations, one along the Elgin-O’Hare Western Access (IL-390) and another along the Regan Memorial Tollway (I-88).

Solution

A Valdes team member was the Corridor Construction Manager (CCM) and Owner’s Representative for two Tollway maintenance facilities, responsible for overseeing the overall progress and quality of the projects. As a member of the Tollway General Engineering Consultant (GEC) project team, this team member attended weekly progress meetings, reviewed extra work authorizations, and assisted with coordination between Tollway departments. Additionally, they conducted field visits as required and reviewed monthly schedule updates.

Impact

This careful oversight, planning and coordination led to the successful completion of the maintenance facility buildings, including important site improvements like truck washes, salt barns and fueling facilities, grading, pavement construction, site work, erosion control measures, landscaping, drainage improvements, installation of permanent pavement markings, and lighting improvements.
