Water Main Replacement & Interconnect

Challenge

The project consisted of the installation of six valves to interconnect the system with the transmission main and local distribution mains. The old cast iron water main from the 1950’s required replacement due to age of the main and the village reconstructing the roadway.

Solution

Staff at Valdes Architecture & Engineering completed design and construction management of approximately 1,000 feet of 20-inch chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) replacement transmission water main. Key project elements included: 20-inch transmission main installation design; 12, 8, and 6-inch water main interconnect design; water service replacement; sanitary sewer service replacement; local roadway reconstruction; existing roadway subgrade lime stabilization; and construction management and resident project representative

Impact

The project was designed and permitted in one month as required by the client. The section of water main was critical in maintaining a water source to approximately 17,000 customers during construction and determining the sequence of construction was paramount to the project’s success.
